There is a new product on the horizon that could be making waves in the weight loss industry. This new product has currently been submitted to the FDA for approval. The substance is named Qnexa and is creating quit the buzz on diet drug news articles. The reason behind all of the buildup is because in its years of testing it has consistently shown great results in fighting obesity.
Qnexa is a combination medication consisting of mostly Topiramate and a lesser amount of Phentermine. Together in the right mixture and with certain release factors Qnexa has shown remarkable weight loss results. Topiramate is a medication that is often prescribed for convulsions such as epilepsy where as Phentermine is used to fight obesity. Qnexa has been shown to have better weight loss properties than simply taking phentermine on its own or for that matter Topiramate.
After years of testing its maker Vivus Inc, convinced of its worth, has submitted it to the FDA for approval. On July 15th an advisory committee will discuss it in more detail but will not give its approval or disapproval until the expected time of later October 2010. We could find out however the likelihood of whether it is approved or not in July. If it is approved it could turn into a huge blockbuster drug and create big money for its maker as well has help out potentially millions of people lose weight.
It is important to realize that Qnexa is the mixture of two prescription drugs on the market and as such will most inevitably, if approved, be available via prescription only. Prescription medications come with them possible side effects as well as interactions with other medications or even certain supplements. As a result it will be imperative, if prescribed to someone, that they take it only as prescribed under a doctor’s order. Recent warnings also have indicated that no one should ever attempt to mix these products themselves. Although the actual test amounts can be found, there are certain release factors with each drug that enables it to not only work effectively but on a safer level than simply mixing the two drugs by ones self. The result could be very dangerous and must never be attempted.
Another issue is one of the importance of a good diet and exercise, chances are if you are ever prescribed this medication that you will be informed by your doctor to engage in a proper diet and exercise program. It is highly unlikely unless other medication factors indicate, that you would simply be prescribed it without other important weight loss and health factors taken into consideration. We will wait and see if Qnexa turns out to be the great promised diet drug some are expecting.
