If you possess the ability to dream with the knowledge that you are dreaming, it is known as the lucid dream. Hence, it requires you to have the capability to make your body go to sleep while you travel to the realm of dreams with a fully conscious and wakeful mind.

Scoring very high on the popularity factor, the lucid dream is something everyone wants to induce and experience. The reason behind this lies in the obvious fact that if you know that you are dreaming and can control the lucid dream in order to see, do or enjoy whatever it is that your mind desires, knowing fully well that nothing can ever harm you since you would be waking up soon, will it not be the best journey of your life? An experience you would get addicted to and would want to enjoy over and over again?

DILD and WILD are the two forms of lucid dreaming. DILD stands for Dreams initiated Lucid dreaming which in simpler words means that the dream occurs first and then the individual suddenly becomes aware that he/she is dreaming. Needless to say that this is fairly common and does not involve full dream control.

In case of wake Initiated Lucid Dreams (WILD) on the other hand, the lucid dream condition is achieved in a completely conscious and wakeful state of mind. In this case, the body falls asleep while the mind is wakeful and focused while traversing to the realms of dreams. WILD is often accompanied by intense feelings of vibrations, loud noises, tingling sensations and the like.

In case of inducing the lucid dream condition, mention must be made of dream recall. This refers to the ability to remember dreams so that even if you go through a lucid dreaming phase, you must be able to remember them after you wake up. Maintaining a dream journal or making the use of a tape recorder are good ways to facilitate dream recall.

The lucid dream can be induced with the help of technology like Binaural Beats. This involves hearing two different sound vibrations through each ear which in turn go on to fuse into each other in the brain to create the mental condition or state required to bring on the lucidity.

The lucid dream can also be stimulated with the MILD technique. In this case you need to tell your sub conscious mind time and again that it would remember a specific object from your dream. In that way, whenever you dream about that object, your sub conscious mind registers the fact and you become aware that you are in a dream.

It must be said that the primary objective of the lucid dream is to let the body rest and keep the mind wakeful so that you can be aware that you are dreaming. In other words, you need to practice control during the hypnagogy stage, which is the border between sleeping and waking up. Techniques like chanting, counting your breaths, visualizing ascending a high flight of stairs and counting the stairs as you go on, are some tools which would help to successfully pass the hypnagogic stage, without your mind falling asleep, so that you can embark on an unforgettable journey of the lucid dream.
